Tai Chi Qi Gong

Course Description

This course introduces the ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi QiGong. The practice integrates gentle, flowing movements with the breath. Studies indicate that a regular Tai Chi QiGong practice enhances vitality, calms the mind, reduces stress and anxiety, and improves posture, balance and general mobility. The gentle rocking motions and stretching movements combined with the rhythmic breathing are suitable for people of all ages as it does not put too much stress on muscles and joints.

Course Requirements

If you have a medical condition or any health concerns, or haven't exercised for a long time, speak to your GP before you start this course. Prior knowledge or experience is not required. Loose, comfortable clothing (stretchy) is best.

Course Content

You will learn and practise some basic Qigong sets of motions. Each set of motions is a sequence of movements that flow smoothly from one into another. Many movements are completed with bent knees in a squat-like position. Over the term, learners will be taught these sequences of slow, flowing movement associated with Qigong, breathing exercises and meditation.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Follow instructor led movements and practise them on your own and with other students with instructor feedback so you will be able to run-through them independently out of class. Practise some of the sequences for yourself at home or anywhere you feel comfortable between classes Giving time to absorb and understand the essential principles of Qigong will enable you to enjoy your practice, gain health benefits and progress steadily.

Assessment

You will receive ongoing, regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive way. There is no qualification with this course.

Next Steps and Progression

Each learner will spend time talking through their next steps and options with the course teacher. You will be able to develop your skills further on another of our well-being courses and your teacher may also help you to explore other suitable college courses.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
