Art of Paper: Folding, Pleating and Manipulation - Beginner
Paper is an inexpensive sculptural material. Pliable and easily folded, pleated, cut and manipulated with simple tools. Three-dimensional shapes from simple to complex and can be useful for artists, architects, fashion designers and milliners. Learn some key basic techniques, hand folding, scoring and manipulation. The sessions will also cover tools and types of paper best suited for this art form. Please note we do not cover paper engineering for pop-up books.
On the course, you will learn the basics of digital 3D modelling and sculpting of your own objects, using free and beginner's accessible 3D software. You will get the chance to create your own digital designs, and learn how to manipulate existing 3D models, transforming them into small physical objects by printing them on our 3D printer which uses plastic filament. You can bring your own laptop to use or we can provide one for you.
A five-week course with the life model, exploring the use of clay to create 3-dimensional figures. We will be working mainly from a model, but will also spend one session on finishing, hollowing out, glazing or practising detail studies. All material provided.
Life Sculpture: Portrait Head - Beginner/Intermediate
This course will explore key materials, processes, and methodologies for making sculpture through structured projects. By taking inspiration from influential artists, we will explore both how sculptors come up with and realise ideas, and then complete an independent work to a brief. Each half term will focus on a selection of materials, including wood, wire, paper, foam, clay, polymer clays and found objects.
On this course, you will learn about materials, processes, and how to develop ideas and bespoke pieces. A range of materials and processes in sculpture, including wood, wire, plaster, cement, clay, paper, papier mache and mixed media are covered. Intermediate learners can develop projects supported by a subject specialist tutor. Basic material and tools provided. Please note we are unable to accommodate stone carving, bronze casting, or welding metal.
Thursday One-Day Life Sculpture Finishing Workshop - Mixed Level
A one-day workshop for students to develop or finish current or ongoing work. This course will be a workshop format with individual support given by a tutor, advising on current, ongoing works. Please note, there will be no model.
