Course Description

Location: Kentish Town

Course Requirements

All levels welcome: the course is for beginners, as well as those with some experience. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, handouts and health and safety information.

Course Content

Cyanotype is a unique and easy photographic printing technique, invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842. Since its invention, botanists, architects, photographers and artists have been using Cyanotype to create print patterns, known as photograms, in a distinctive deep shade of blue. The process uses a photosensitive solution which when it comes in direct contact with ultraviolet light, turns into the distinctive blue colour. Areas that have been covered, remain white. In this course, you will learn about the history of Cyanotype, its origins and how its application has evolved and used from its invention to the current day.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Demonstrations and presentations followed by practical learning, with individual tutor support. Lots of inspiration using books, handouts and the internet. You will be working at your own pace and be given feedback on your progress. If you have additional learning support needs, you will be signposted to support.
