Life Sculpture - Mixed Level

Course Description

A five-week course with the life model, exploring the use of clay to create 3-dimensional figures. We will be working mainly from a model, but will also spend one session on finishing, hollowing out, glazing or practising detail studies. All material provided.

Course Requirements

This is a mixed ability course and all levels of knowledge and experience are welcome. If you are interested in a specialist technique not listed or described in the course description, please contact the Curriculum manager before enrolling, to find out if it is possible for us to accommodate this.

Course Content

A 5 week course with the life model exploring the use of clay to create 3 dimensional figures. For the 1st session we will have short exploration of key tools and techniques used for life sculpture then move onto working from the model. In the middle 3 sessions we will work entirely from the model with one-to-one assistance from the tutor with additional demonstrations where necessary. In the final we will hollow out, glaze and add finishing touches to our sculptures or practice our technique with some detail studies. All material provided.

Teaching and Learning Methods

This course focuses on practical learning with one-to-one, individual tutor support, supplemented by optional workshops, presentations and demonstrations to help you develop your practice. Technical handouts will be provided in paper form and electronically. There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects and research. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, events or websites for you to visit to enrich your study

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Once you have completed the course you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject, exploring further techniques and appraches or another subject in the Creative Arts department. Advice and Guidance for all further study is available from the Curriculum Manager by request.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
