Computer Skills for Improvers - Plus

Course Description

Improve your basics digital skills on this course. You will work at your own pace and focus on the areas you wish to develop, supported by the tutor. In order to join this course, you must be confident in locating, opening and saving files.

Location: Online/Camden

Course Requirements

You should have completed the Computers for Beginners course or be working at least at Entry 2 level. Some experience with using Windows to locate and save files is essential.

Course Content

The course will develop your current skills and focus on developing your confidence with a range of software. The course will cover the basics of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint. Depending on your starting points, we will work our way up to accomplishing more complex procedures. By end of the course, you should have a lovely portfolio of work, including your own Spreadsheets for everyday use, prepare a presentation that you will present in front of the class and create standard letters and CVs.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course will be delivered using a range of teaching and learning methods which include: demonstrations, paired-work, group work, video tutorials, independent work and homework. Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on one our online learning platforms, Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom. At this level, you should feel independent enough with IT that you can work alone at home on home work. Weekly homework may be given and you are expected to do this. You are also encouraged to attend some workshops at the college outside of these class times.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Once you have completed the course you may choose to enrol on: Essential Digital Skills Qualification Entry 3, Computer Skills Intermediate Level, Microsoft Excel: Intermediate. Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer.
