Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month at WM College

At WM College we are passionate about celebrating each and every learner for their uniqueness and individuality. We realise the importance of feeling accepted and the ability to express the authentic self, especially when it comes to individual learning journeys.

LGBTQ+ History Month is an important time for us at the College, the month of February is a marker within the annual calendar to shine a light on our fantastically diverse and colourful community not only at the college but within our surrounding neighbourhood.

To celebrate each year we organise art exhibitions around the national campaign themes with brilliant contributions from our creative arts learners and local artists. This year we are once again issuing rainbow lanyards and encouraging contributions towards the art exhibition themed around LGBTQ+ Politics in Art, performance poetry and an array of classroom activities. WMC LGBTQ+ History Month Exhibition – Politics In Art: ‘The Arc Is Long’.

Everyone is welcome to submit work to this virtual exhibition hosted on our Instagram and on our Ruskin gallery website – this may include all visual arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, jewellery, sculpture, wood carving, stained glass, ceramics, collage, digital art, bookmaking, textiles, photography), poetry and creative writing, video, performance, and music.  We are particularly interested to see collage work.

Please send a digital image of your work to exhibitions@wmcollege.ac.uk by Saturday 26 February 2022

This will be shared on Instagram, our Ruskin Gallery website and it will be printed and displayed in College, at the end of the 3rd floor corridor.

If you’re interested in learning more about Camden’s history and culture, we have a great range of Humanities and Culture courses running throughout the year. For more information on events and activities taking place in and around Camden & Islington check out Forum+.
