Preparation for Childcare

Course Description

This course will help you to prepare for either the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner ot the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning course. Over the four sessions (20 hours), you will be able to familiarise yourself with the requirements for the level 2 courses, apply for your DBS, understand the placement requirements and get support to obtain a placement, learn how to write an effective reflective log, and develop the skills to complete level 2 assignments.

Course Content

Preparation for Level 2 courses (Childcare and Supporting teaching and learning). Preparation for workplace placements. Developing writing and reflective writing skills required for the level 2 courses.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include lecture, discussion, group work, video, presentations and role play. All resources used within each lesson are available and you will submit most of your coursework via Google Classroom

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you may be expected to do some home study each week, so you will need access to a computer at home, or outside of the classroom.

Assessment

Assessment will be informal through a variety of classwork, and homework tasks.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification for this course but a college certificate is available on request from your tutor after the end of the course

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides financial support for some course fees, which is based on an eligibility criteria. For more information, please contact a member of the Learner Services team at the main reception. A DBS is required for this course and will be arranged by the college, via your tutor, once you have started the course and will not incur a cost.
