These Millinery workshops are aimed at millinery students who would like time in the studio to complete projects and develop new ideas and techniques. These are not taught classes, but the tutor will aim to support you to use range of techniques to enable you to produce modern hats with a professional finish.
You must have followed one of our Millinery courses, or had equiviant training. Basic hand sewing skills are desirable.
This is a self-lead project-based course and is suitable for anyone interested in the subject. You need to have experience of hat making or to be on one of our courses to join the workshop. The workshop is designed to complement the courses and can enable students a full day to work on their projects if they enrol on both the course at the workshop at the same time. It can help to provide a strong grounding in the core techniques of the subject and explore further design, creativity, and use of materials. Students can repeat the workshop to develop their work further. You will be given a list of suggested materials and suppliers.
Teaching and Learning Methods
In the first sessions, the teacher will check your skills and your personal goals for the course. If the course is not suitable, you will be advised on a more suitable course by the tutor in your class. You will be working at your own pace and be given verbal and written feedback on your progress. If you have additional learning support needs, you will be signposted to support. At the end of the course, the tutor will assess your progress and advise you on the next step.
There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.
Next Steps and Progression
Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject in the Creative Arts department. You may wish to pursue one of our accredited courses as a pathway onto higher education or employment. Advice and Guidance for all further study is available from the Curriculum Manager by request.
