Introduction to Final Cut Pro X

Course Description

Our two Saturday hands-on Beginners Final Cut Pro X Course familiarises participants with the user interface, teaches trainees to perform basic editing functions and how to work with new features including the Automatic Import features, Media Management and Improved Timeline. No previous knowledge of Final Cut is required, our course is designed for beginners and those with a little experience. This course will lead you through the basics of using this powerful software package, working on practical, hands on examples and exercises ensuring you benefit from practical experience and learn useful tips and tricks.

• Understanding trimming
• Importing media/Importing from a camera
• Adding music and sound effects
• Building a rough cut
• Working with Titles
• Changing edited clips
• Effects and enhancing colour
• Working with storylines
• Video, audio effects, transitions
• Removing clip selections and adding gaps
• Exporting different files types
• Publishing to video sharing sites

Teaching and Learning Methods

Through instructor led demonstrations and exercises you will learn how to edit a short promotional video or film using a variety of media, adding video effects and titles and finally exporting your finished video. All media resources will be provided, although you are also welcome to bring your own videos, stills, etc.

Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, iLearn.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish.

The College also provides additional financial support through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund (DLSF); however there are eligibility criteria that applies. Please refer to the DLSF policy which can be found at the main reception.
