Glass Art: Image Transfer Techniques (Mixed Level)

Course Description

This course will introduce you to fusing images onto flat or curved glass surfaces using Photo fusing Decal paper and kiln firing to 680-800°C (Warm Glass and Creative Glass). We will be using HP or Canon black-only laser printers to produce a sepia effect. You will be able to add colour to your images with enamels or glass powders either on top of or under the image. Course Content

You will be taught how to transfer images, photos, texts, drawings or any other graphics onto glass. You will be encouraged to work into the images to create a rich visual narrative. During the course you will be taught about kiln firing schedules and about glass materials, such as frits and enamels, so that you can incorporate a range of textures and colours with your image transfers.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching will be student centred with an emphasis on personal development and expression of your ideas. You will have one to one tutorials, group discussion and peer mentoring with the other students to enable a sharing of knowledge and skills. Online resources will be available.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor will discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, gigs or websites for you to visit to enrich your study.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Basic materials provided. Your tutor will share a list of specialist suppliers where you can get materials for your own projects.
