Cross-Stitch Workshop (Beginners/Intermediate)

Course Description

This course is a modern introduction to designing and cross stitching a square sampler. There are so many exciting projects and timeles you can make with basic cross stitching skills! You'll learn the basic cross-stitch, zig zag, herringbone, tacked herringbone, oblong, and rice stitches. By the end of this class, you’ll know how to complete a sampler and be able to embark on your own projects with this traditional craft.

Course Content

This workshop begins with a playful design session, learning and observing patterns and formations, before commencing your own cross stitch project. Cross stitch offers an exceptional way of using colour that not all crafts offer. Learn to harness this through colour contrasting and shading to create bright and bold samplers that can then be mounted, constructed or frame

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will have an individual learning plan to which you can add personal aims. You will work at your own pace and your progress will be reviewed regularly. At the end of the course, you will receive feedback on your achievements and the tutor can advise you on next steps.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, gigs or websites for you to visit to enrich your study.


There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs.
