Creative Pattern Cutting & Draping on the Stand (Intermediate/Advanced)

Course Description

This course is aimed at further developing your pattern cutting skills and technical knowledge to equip you with the ability to transform personal fashion designs into professional patterns and wearable garments. You?ll learn how to draft pattern blocks from scratch and understand how to achieve the perfect fit. Practice 2D pattern manipulation techniques by exploring the use of creative design styles, then transition into 3D pattern development with fabric manipulation techniques.

Course Content

This course is aimed at further developing your pattern cutting skills and technical knowledge to equip you with the ability to transform personal fashion designs into professional patterns and wearable garments.

10-week courses are structured as follows:
1) Practice 2D pattern manipulation techniques by exploring the use of creative design styles.
2) Transition into 3D pattern development with fabric manipulation techniques.
3) Introduction and practice of 3D pattern development through the art of draping.

Content is broken down into three terms with the last term focused on realising a personal design through draping.

The focus on the three terms will focus on:
1st Term: The Skirt Block
2nd Term: The Bodice Block
3rd Term: The Dress Block and Personal Design Realisation

All courses follow on from each other. Ideally, you should have completed each 10-week course progressively to gain a comprehensive understanding of creative pattern cutting techniques and build up your technical knowledge confidently. However, it is possible to take them individually.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching and learning methods will be comprised of; technical demonstrations of all skills followed by practical skills practice and sample production.

Guided Discovery through pattern design exploration.

Peer Support with pattern design development collaborations.

One to one tutoring and class discussions.

Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, iLearn.

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes, you will be expected to allocate time to practice technical skills between classes and carry out research to aid in you?re pattern design development.

Assessment

Learners will be assessed through the tutor observation of learner?s skill development throughout the course.

Assessment of completed technical skills.

Evaluation of shared learning outcomes during and at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

On completion of this course, you will achieve a certificate of your attendance onto the course.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
