Summary

This course offers you the opportunity to explore different drawing and painting techniques in a relaxed, small group learning environment. You will be introduced to a range of painting and drawing techniques and explore different processes and approaches, taking the form of themed projects. Different themes introduced each term, will enable you to either kick start or improve on your level of skills. You will also be shown a range diverse artists’ work, including many with learning difficulties or disabilities, to inspire and support your learning.

Requirements

This course is aimed at all levels, but in particular, beginners and learners with mild to moderate learning difficulties. An open mind and interest in learning about drawing and painting is all you will need.

Content

Working at your own pace, you will spend time experimenting with different artist techniques and strategies in painting, drawing and mixed media to develop the skills to bring your ideas and your artwork to life via the themed projects. By the end of this course, you will be able to use different approaches to drawing, painting and mixed media; develop and share your own ideas through, mood boards, discussions and the sharing of ideas with other learners to complete your individual projects.

Teaching and Learning

Teaching and learning take place in a small group where learners will be guided to use materials and specialist equipment 1:1. Demonstrations will be at a pace to suit all learners who we will support to also share ideas; all classes are supported by specialist Additional Learning Support staff. We ensure teaching is learner-centred and tailored to meet learners’ specific needs and your tutor will discuss ideas with you to help extend your study beyond college. Your tutor may also recommend exhibitions, or websites and books for you to use to enrich your learning.

Assessment

Assessment takes place in a variety of methods including having your work put on display. You will be assessed throughout the stages of your development, and you will share your thoughts about your growing skills and knowledge with your teacher. You will receive a personalised WMC Certificate on successful completion of the course.

Next Steps

Each learner will spend time talking through their next steps and progression with their teacher with a record made in learners ILP. Following completion of your course, you will be able to develop your skills further on another of our Supported Learning courses if you are not ready for one of the many mainstream college courses.Your teacher will help you to explore all suitable options.

Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
