Daytime & Evening Courses in Childcare and Adult Health & Social Care

Childcare courses

Working with Children Level 1

This is an ideal introductory course if you want to work with children as a teaching assistant in school or as a support worker in early years or nursery settings, but need to improve your written or spoken English. You will feel passionate about working with children but may have little experience of doing so. On this course, you will learn about communicating with children, how children develop, how to work inclusively with children by promoting equality and diversity and also how to plan activities with children.

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce

If you are looking to train as an early years worker in a nursery or early years setting then this course is ideal for you. This two-term course will help you to develop practical knowledge and understanding about working with young children aged 0-5. You will study 14 units which include child development, safeguarding, health and safety, positive environments for children and partnership working in services for children, as well as supporting positive behaviour, communication, equality and inclusion and maintaining and supporting relationships with children and young people. You must also do a voluntary work placement one day a week.

Childcare Open Day

Do you want to start a career in Childcare? You maybe already working in the sector but ready for more responsibility and career development. At WMC we have fostered strong links to schools, nurseries and local providers and our learners successfully progress to, and develop, their employment opportunities. Our courses range from Levels 1 to 3 and cover a range of specialisms, find out which one is right for you at our Childcare Open Days.

These will be taking place at the Crowndale Road Site on:

Tuesday 1st May at 10am or 4.30pm

Tuesday 5th June at 1.30pm or 5.30pm

Meet our tutors, current students and receive advice and guidance to help you choose the right course for you. Interviews and assessments will be available during these times so you could find out whether you have been accepted and secure a place to study with us in September.

Adult Health and Social Care courses

NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care      

This is an ideal introductory course if you want to work with vulnerable adults in recognised care settings or informally for family members, but need to improve your written or spoken English. Over the term, you will learn about the adult social care sector, the role of the care worker, the values and principles of adult social care. You will also have an introduction to communication skills required for working in care.  You will feel passionate about working with vulnerable adults but may have little experience of doing so.

Assignment Writing for Vocational Courses

This course is designed for all learners on vocational courses who are expected to produce written assignments in order to pass the course. You will be taught essay writing structure and given simple strategies to put knowledge and understanding into coherent written form. A strong focus on literacy, grammar, spelling and use of computers will form part of the learning. You must be on a WMC vocational course at level 2 or 3 and be tasked with assignment writing. Learners studying Fashion/Design, Teaching Assistants, Childcare, the Award in Education and Training, and Health and Social Care may wish to apply.

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care  

If you are looking to train as a care worker with vulnerable adults, then this course is ideal for you. This course will help you to develop knowledge and understanding about working with vulnerable adults aged 19 and over who may have a range of needs from learning disability to dementia. You will study nine mandatory units which include communication skills, health and safety, safeguarding, person centred care, the adult social care sector and your own personal development as a care worker. The course is an excellent preparation for voluntary or paid work in care, as well as providing a step up to study at Level 3.
