Guy Shackle (Chair)
Guy is an architect who lives in Camden. He brings many skills to the Board not only from his professional life where he has designed a number of educational buildings, but also from his experience as school governor and chair of governors.”
Ahsan is a marketing and public relations professional. He has a particular interest social and community work and is a director of the Dhaka Literary Festival. He lives locally and is keen that the College further develops links with Camden’s minority communities.
Kate Bell (Vice-Chair)
Kate is the Head of the Economic and Social Affairs Department at the TUC. The Department leads the TUC’s work in economic and social policy, giving particular consideration to economic and labour market trends and their implications for people at work. Before joining the TUC Kate worked as Head of Policy and Public Affairs for a local authority, as Work and Pensions adviser to Ed Miliband, and for the charities Child Poverty Action Group and Gingerbread. Kate has been a governor since 2008 and currently chairs the Audit Committee.
Amanda is the teacher governor. She teaches English and childcare and first became involved in the College as a student, studying creative writing and a teacher training course. She also brings experience as a parent governor at a local primary and secondary school.
Romy spent her younger years in New Zealand before coming to live in England. She is a student governor who lives locally: she gained some experience as a student governor at a university in New Zealand. She has been a student at WMC for 4 years and will continue to study at the College in the future. She has a particular interest in working to develop further the reach and impact of cominucations with learners.
Barbara has had experience as Deputy Chief Executive and Finance Director of a London Mental Health Trust; a senior finance professional, CCAB qualified, with over 20 years of experience in a variety of NHS sectors with a strong commitment to the values and ethos of WMC. Barbara is the Chair of the Finance, Personnel and Development Committee.
Arianna is a student governor who lives locally: originally from Italy where she gained qualifications as a journalist and now living in the UK for 5 years. She has been a student at WMC for 3 years and will continue to study the English language and Accounting in the future.
Fran is a qualified chartered accountant and has pursued a successful career in financial services. She has held corporate finance, strategy and chief operating officer roles in a major international bank and is currently the COO of an asset management company. She is interested in work-place equality, work-life balance issues and in the development of work with the local community and local businesses.
Helen has been Principal of WMC – The Camden College, in London, since December 2014. She brings to WMC – The Camden College her many years’ experience of successful leadership within adult and community education across London: Southgate, Brent and, most recently Lewisham where she recreated and revitalised what had been a failing service.
June is a retired College Principal with extensive experience of governance in schools, academies, colleges and universities: most recently as a governor at the University of Bedfordshire where she was Chair the Student Experience Committee. She is keen to see that people from all community backgrounds, regardless of educational history, remain active in learning and / or employment.
Somata is the Camden Council representative on the governing body. She is a local councillor (St Pancras and Sommers Town) and resident and has been a governor of a local Camden Primary School.
An architect, Professor at UCL, with a professional career helping organisations to shape their built assets to deliver corporate goals. She has been the founding director since 1990 of professional consultancy firm.
Chris lives in Camden and works as a strategy consultant for business and community organisations. He has experience of education sector governance and Employer Engagement initiatives and also contributes to academic journals with a research focus on labour market transitions and social change.
Jon is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Greenwich in London and the Head of the Business School. His professional career began in the Civil Service (Home Office and Cabinet Office) before joining one of the UK’s leading professional services firms where he worked on public sector reform and innovation. He is interested in ways of enhancing students’ engagement through digital technology.
Paul is a qualified accountant who has worked in senior management roles at the London Business School for 15 years where he was until recently Chief Operating Officer for Executive Education. He has a career of successful delivery of strategic goals, and further expertise in mentoring. He is now spending more time developing his mentoring skills.
