WMC Governors:

Guy Shackle (Chair)

Guy is an architect who lives in Camden.  He brings many skills to the Board not only from his professional life where he has designed a number of educational buildings, but also from his experience as school governor and chair of governors.”

Ahsan Akbar

Ahsan is a marketing and public relations professional. He has a particular interest social and community work and is a director of the Dhaka Literary Festival. He lives locally and is keen that the College further develops links with Camden’s minority communities.

Hortese Allen

Hortese is a student governor enrolled on English and maths courses.

Kate Bell (Vice-Chair)

Kate is the Head of the Economic and Social Affairs Department at the TUC. The Department leads the TUC’s work in economic and social policy, giving particular consideration to economic and labour market trends and their implications for people at work.  Before joining the TUC Kate worked as Head of Policy and Public Affairs for a local authority, as Work and Pensions adviser to Ed Miliband, and for the charities Child Poverty Action Group and Gingerbread. Kate has been a governor since 2008 and currently chairs the Audit Committee.

Amanda Blinkhorn

Amanda is the teacher governor. She teaches English and childcare and first became involved in the College as a student, studying creative writing and a teacher training course. She also brings experience as a parent governor at a local primary and secondary school.

Barbara Byrne

Barbara has had experience as Deputy Chief Executive and Finance Director of a London Mental Health Trust; a  senior finance professional, CCAB qualified, with over 20 years of experience in a variety of NHS sectors with a strong commitment to the values and ethos of WMC.  Barbara is the Chair of the Finance, Personnel and Development Committee.

Jean Esnard

Jean is the Administrative Staff Governor: she is the Management Information and Data Administrator.

Helen Hammond

Helen has been Principal of WMC – The Camden College, in London, since December 2014. She brings to WMC – The Camden College her many years’ experience of successful leadership within adult and community education across London: Southgate, Brent and, most recently Lewisham where she recreated and revitalised what had been a failing service.

June Jarrett

June is a retired College Principal with extensive experience of governance in schools, academies, colleges and universities. She is currently a governor at the University of Bedfordshire where she chairs the Student Experience Committee. She is keen to see that people from all community backgrounds, regardless of educational history, remain active in learning and / or employment.

Samata Khatoon

Somata is the Camden Council representative on the governing body. She is a local councillor (St Pancras and Sommers Town) and resident and has been a governor of a local Camden Primary School.

Alexi Marmot

An architect, Professor at UCL, with a professional career helping organisations to shape their built assets to deliver corporate goals. She has been the founding director since 1990 of professional consultancy firm.

Gerry Munnelly

Gerry is a student governor who has studied at the College for a number of years. He is currently taking a course in radio production.

David Offenbach

David is a former Camden Councillor and constituent in the Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary constituency. He is a practicing solicitor with a wide range of experience in the corporate, real property and charity sectors. He is Vice-President of Labour Business – an affiliate of the national Labour Party.

Chris Percy

Chris lives in Camden and works as a strategy consultant for business and community organisations. He has experience of education sector governance and Employer Engagement initiatives and also contributes to academic journals with a research focus on labour market transitions and social change.

Paul Smith

Paul is a qualified accountant who has worked in senior management roles at the London Business School for 15 years where he is currently Chief Operating Officer for Executive Education. He has a career of successful delivery of strategic goals, and further expertise in mentoring.

Paula Whittle (Vice-Chair)

Paula has thirty years’ experience in the FE sector and has been Deputy Principal or Principal at a number of colleges including WMC and a major London College. She has been a tutor for the Open University, an ALI/Ofsted inspector and Vice Chair of a large Chamber of Business and Commerce. She is an experienced governor/ trustee, recently as Chair of two charities, and currently as Chair of Governors at a primary school, and a trustee of three charities. She also leads social policy and research for a Citizens Advice Bureau and is a consultant for education and leadership with a focus on governance.
