As we approach the end of the spring term, we are reminded that returning after the Easter break marks the beginning of the final term of the academic year. Although spring is often considered the quietest period in the college calendar, behind the scenes, it is one of our busiest times, as this is when we plan and shape the curriculum for the year ahead.
Our funding for the next academic year has been reduced by another 1.65%. This means that we will have to scale back on some of our courses. As funding decreases, sustaining the same level of service requires us to grow our income, and therefore, we must implement another fee increase from next year. We are, however, actively reviewing the types and lengths of courses we offer to ensure we continue to provide a rich and meaningful learning experience. When the new course directory is published in the summer term, I encourage you to explore it carefully and see the new opportunities available.
Over recent days and weeks, we have seen or heard the news about further conflict and tensions in the Middle East. While we cannot control world events, we can shape the atmosphere within our own community. My message, also shared on our website, is that WM College remains a place of kindness, respect, and understanding. Let us continue to look after ourselves and one another and uphold the values that make our college a supportive environment for all.
I’m delighted to share blog in the Curated Conversation series, A Call to Courage: Belonging, Language and Leadership. I warmly invite you to take some time to read, reflect and engage with it in your own time, and to share it with others if it resonates with you. Read more
Thank you for continuing to support the college. As we head into the break, I wish every member of our diverse community a restful and restorative time. Whether you are marking Eid, celebrating Easter, observing seasonal traditions, or simply taking a moment to pause and enjoy the lighter days ahead, I hope this period brings you peace, joy, and connection. Here’s to returning refreshed for our final term of the year.
Dipa Ganguli OBE, Principal

Please be reminded of the charges associated with ID cards:
All learners are required to always carry their ID card while on college premises. If you do not have your ID, you will need to obtain either a replacement card or a temporary day pass, in line with standard college procedures.
Please note that failure to comply with this requirement may result in refusal of entry to the college. Continued non-compliance may also be considered a breach of college policies and procedures.
We kindly ask that all learners treat reception staff with courtesy and respect at all times.

Curriculum Manager for 3D Arts & Crafts
We’re delighted to welcome Simone Maier (Sim) as our new Curriculum Manager for 3D Arts & Crafts at WM College.
Originally from near Melbourne, Australia, Sim has now settled in London, bringing with her a wealth of creative experience, academic expertise, and a genuine passion for arts education.
Sim’s path into the arts wasn’t linear and that’s part of what makes her story so inspiring. In her 30s, she decided it was time for a career change. She returned to university, completing a Foundation course, followed by a BA in Fine Art, and went on to gain an MA in Art Education and a PGCE.
That bold step led her into teaching, researching, and designing Visual Arts curricula work she finds deeply rewarding.
What drives her most? Those unforgettable “light bulb” moments when students recognise the value, pleasure, and quality of their own unique creative work.
Artistic Practice
Sim’s own practice sits somewhere between poetry, sculpture, and installation. She has exhibited in London and completed artist residencies, including one in an atmospheric crypt beneath St Pancras. Alongside her studio work, she keeps a Visual Blog (artworks – simonemaierartist), where she shares insights into her creative process and ongoing projects.
Passion for Access to Arts Education
Sim is a committed advocate for inclusive arts education. She believes passionately that students of all ages and backgrounds should have the opportunity to make, experiment, fail, try again, and grow.
She currently serves as a National Councillor for the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD), championing the importance of creative education and, by her own admission, getting especially enthusiastic about the power of a good sketchbook!
Beyond the Studio
Outside of work, she enjoys family time, gardening, visiting exhibitions, and riding. If you see her around, do say hello. She’s always happy to talk about art, teaching, and ideas.
We’re excited to welcome several new team members to WM College this term.
Mosaic Tutors
Welcome to the team, we’re delighted to have you with us and look forward to working together!

This month, we are delighted to recognise our learner, Rudi.
Rudi has been a fantastic presence in her mathematics class, consistently setting a great example for others. Her excellent attendance and punctuality reflect a strong commitment to her learning. She approaches every task with focus and a genuine desire to do her best.
What stands out most is Rudi’s determination. She takes the time to fully understand each activity, asks thoughtful questions, and is always willing to challenge herself.
Rudi is also a kind and supportive team member, always ready to encourage her classmates and offer help when needed. Her calm, positive attitude contributes to a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
She participates thoughtfully in discussions, listens respectfully to others, and carries herself with quiet confidence and maturity. Reliable and motivated, Rudi consistently goes the extra mile.
Congratulations, Rudi, and thank you for being such a valued member of the class.

GCSE English learners have completed their Spoken Language Endorsement Assessment. Their presentations are being assessed at present.
Our partnership with the Adult Literacy Trust goes from strength to strength. Several English learners meet a coach/volunteer once a week in the college library to read and discuss their readings. Learners interested in taking part, can sign up here.
We are offering three taster sessions on the evening of 31 March. These sessions are designed for learners interested in French, Spanish, literature and film discussions, and writing and reviewing poetry.

ALS has been working diligently to process exam concessions, and most have now been approved. We aim to support learners in achieving their learning goals and passing exams with the support they require. However, with strict rules in place, we must adhere to JCQ guidelines, but we will be fair and accommodating as long as we have the required supporting evidence.
We wish everyone currently taking mock exams and real exams all the best.
Our Disability Officer would like to remind all learners that we have an open-door policy in our ALS department, to talk about any needs you would like to discuss with us. We will do our best to be accommodating.

Passover commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Jewish families gather for a special meal called the Seder, sharing symbolic foods and retelling the Exodus story. The festival celebrates freedom, resilience and justice, while remembering the importance of compassion and hope.

Lesbian Visibility Day recognises and celebrates lesbian identities, experiences and contributions. It promotes inclusion, challenges discrimination and highlights the importance of representation. The day encourages allyship and supports the creation of inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ communities.

Antonia is a former creative writing learner whose work has been published on Radio X, a milestone that once felt far out of reach. As a creative writing learner at WM College, she didn’t start with industry experience or formal training, just a genuine passion for music and a curiosity about storytelling. Through workshops, feedback, and a supportive classroom environment, she began to shape her voice and grow in confidence. What started as a course to develop her writing gradually became the foundation for real-world opportunities, proving that the skills built in the classroom can travel much further than expected.
