This practical course is for students who would like to improve their soldering technique. Basic soldering principles will be covered and students will practice with copper and brass. We will cover pallion soldering, sweat soldering and appropriate techniques for a range of soldering scenarios. You will work with soldering set-ups, aids and adapted tools for specific soldering jobs, as well as trouble shooting for when soldering fails.

This course is for anyone who would like to make jewellery and small sculptural objects using silver, copper and brass. You will learn a range of techniques including forming metal sheet (anti-clastic raising, fold forming and repousse), fabrication (soldering, riveting and bezel setting with prongs) and forging. Beginners and Intermediate learners can follow set projects whilst Intermediate and advanced learners will be encouraged to explore their own ideas through self-initiated projects.

Silver clay techniques and Jewellery metalwork and silver smithing techniques will be taught and supported in this class. Basic materials (wire, sheet metal, some metal clay) are included in the fee. However silver clay is not included. You can bring or buy your own silver clay (tutor can advise) and/or we can sell you some at cost price.

On this mixed level class, you will learn a range of jewellery making techniques and processes, including silversmithing and stone setting, amongst others. You will produce practical and wearable jewellery pieces. More experienced learners are encouraged to work on self -initiated projects and beginners will be offered set projects to build their core skills. Your tutor will support your development in both your technical and design skills.
