Course Content

In this course we will look at how to cast in jesmonite using Silicone moulds. We will first explore the properties of jesmonite and how to mix, colour and pour it through a set project to make a terrazzo coaster using a prepared silicone mould. After this we will look at a variety of silicone mould making techniques and Leaners will then design and make their own silicone mould to cast from. Finally we will cast from our moulds and will look at finishing techniques. Students who complete the program will take home at least one jesmonite coaster, one Silicone mould and one silicone cast. More advanced students will be permitted to undertake their own jesmonite and silicone projects if considered appropriate by the tutor. However materials, tutor time and studio space are limited, so please contact the tutor prior to the class to check the feasibility of the project. Learners can progress onto develop these skills in either the sculpture studio or mixed ability courses at WMC or other specific casting courses elsewhere.
