Paediatric First Aid

Course Description

The Paediatric First Aid course is designed for those who work directly with infants or young children. You will be expected to complete both theory and practical activities in order to achieve this qualification. The course will cover the following topics; Checking for signs of breathing, Assessment of injuries, Recovery position, Infant and child resuscitation (CPR), Choking, Bleeds and shock management, Seizures, Anaphylaxis and Childhood illnesses.

Course Content

This is a 12-hour course covering both practical and theoretical elements of paediatric first aid.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include lecture, discussion, group work, presentations and role play.

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you may be expected to do some home study each week, so you will need access to a computer at home, or outside of the classroom.


Your work will be marked regularly by your tutor, who will give you constructive feedback on how to improve.

Qualification you will achieve

The certificate is awarded once both the theory and practical modules are complete. The certificate is nationally recognised and can be used as part of your registration with Ofsted. This qualification will ensure you have the correct training to meet Ofsted requirements for Early Years settings such as schools, nurseries and after school clubs.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

WMC – The Camden College provides financial support for some course fees, which is based on an eligibility criteria. For more information please contact a member of the Learner Services team at the main reception.
A DBS is required for this course and will be arranged by the college, via your tutor, once you have started the course and will not incur a cost.
