Paediatric First Aid

Course Description

The Paediatric First Aid course is designed for those who work directly with infants or young children. You will be expected to complete both theory and practical activities in order to achieve this qualification. The course will cover the following topics: checking for signs of breathing, assessment of injuries, recovery position, infant and child resuscitation (CPR), choking, bleeds and shock management, seizures, anaphylaxis and childhood illnesses.

Course Requirements

You should have a qualification in English at Level and in Maths at Entry 3. Initial assessment for this course will determine what level you are working at.

Course Content

This is a 12-hour course covering both practical and theoretical elements of paediatric first aid.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include lecture, discussion, group work, presentations and role play. In addition to the classes you may be expected to do some home study each week, so you will need access to a computer at home, or outside of the classroom.

Assessment

Your work will be assessed regularly by your tutor, who will give you constructive feedback on how to improve. On completeion you will receive a certificate of completion from the college.

Qualification you will achieve

The certificate is awarded once both the theory and practical modules are complete. The certificate is nationally recognised and can be used as part of your registration with Ofsted. This qualification will ensure you have the correct training to meet Ofsted requirements for Early Years settings such as schools, nurseries and after school clubs.

Next Steps and Progression

Although it does not provide direct progression, the subjects covered in this Award make a useful introduction to our Early Years Educator qualifications.

This course is not eligible for Additional Learning Support (ALS), however teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs.??Reasonable adjustments including assistive equipment and also access support can be made available through our Disability Officer.? Digital learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers and employability advice and guidance is also available to all learners.?
