NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning

Course Description

If you are already qualified at Level 2 and working in a school or nursery, the Level 3 Diploma will enable you to have: more responsibility in the classroom, take a lead on planning & assessment of learning activities, command a higher pay rate, develop your confidence and enhance professional skills
You will study 16 units which include: child development, safeguarding, health and safety, positive environments for children and partnership working in services for children, as well as supporting positive behaviour, communication, equality and inclusion and maintaining and supporting relationships with children and young people.

Course Content

The qualification consists of 16 units of study that cover: Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Child Development along with specialist units that support children?s learning & behaviour. The ?Knowledge? aspects of the course will be taught in the classroom and you will need to attend college for two days per week. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board. The Knowledge and Skills you have learnt will be assessed at your work placement with two planned observations conducted by our assessor team.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include lecture, discussion, group work, field trips, video, presentations and role play. All resources used within each lesson are available and you will submit most of your coursework via Google Classroom

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you will be expected to do over 5 hours of home study per week. Coursework submissions will be required to be in an electronic format so you will need access to a computer at home, or outside of the classroom.

Assessment

Your work will be marked regularly by your tutor, who will give you constructive feedback on how to improve. Your tutor will also arrange for you to be observed twice, for one hour, in your work placement. Please note you will need to pass both the portfolio and workplace-observation elements of the course, in order to achieve the full L3 qualification.

Qualification you will achieve

Successful completion of this course will give you a: Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning. The awarding body is NCFE CACHE.

Next Steps and Progression

The successful completion of this course will provide pathways to higher study, eg: Level 4 HLTA or Foundation Degree

GCSE English or GCSE Maths

Employment in a school or educational workplace, with enhanced pay rates.

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

You could access an Advanced Learning Loan for the entire cost of the Course Fees for this Level 3 course. You may wish to use your own funds to pay the balance in full- if so then there is the option to pay by instalments. It should be noted that there are no Concessionary Rates for the fees on this course.

A DBS is required for this course and will be arranged by the college, via your tutor, once you have started the course and will not incur a cost.
