NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning

Course Description

If you are looking to train as a teaching assistant in primary or secondary school (5+) settings then this course is ideal for you. This course will help you to develop practical knowledge and understanding of supporting children in the classroom, you will learn about the UK primary and secondary education systems. The course focuses on child development, safeguarding, health and safety, communication and team practice in schools as well as how to promote positive behaviour and equality, diversity and inclusion when working with children. You will feel passionate about learning and about working with children and may have particular skills of your own you feel children may benefit from. A voluntary two day a week work placement is required.

Course Content

You are expected to complete a portfolio of written evidence to show your knowledge and understanding and will also be observed in the workplace, to demonstrate practical application of your learning. There are eleven mandatory units and you must complete all written and practical tasks in order to pass. By the end of the course you will be able to apply for paid work as a teaching assistant in a school setting; you may also wish to progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning Diploma to further your career and earning opportunities in the sector.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include lecture, discussion, group work, field trips, video, presentations and role play. All resources used within each lesson are available via Google Classroom

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you will be expected to do over 5 hours of home study per week. Coursework submissions will be required to be in an electronic format so you will need access to a computer at home, or outside of the classroom.

Assessment

Your work will be marked by your tutor who will give you constructive feedback on how to improve. Your tutor will also arrange for you to be observed for one hour in your work placement.

Qualification you will achieve

Completion of this course will give you Level 2 Certificate Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. The awarding body is NCFE Cache

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
