In this course you will explore the process of becoming fully present with your thoughts, bringing attention to your breath and an awareness of the sensations your body experiences as it moves. You will learn to pay attention to the present by noticing when your mind wanders off. Developing mindfulness can help you notice signs of stress and anxiety earlier and deal with them better. Mindful meditation can help you notice the world around you more and increase your sense of mental wellbeing.
Prior knowledge or experience is not required. Loose, comfortable clothing (stretchy) is best.
On this course you will learn meditation techniques that will help you to be more aware of where you are and what you are doing in the given moment without overly reacting to what is going on around you. You will learn to observe your thoughts and emotions but let them pass without judgement. You will learn to notice when your mind wanders off and gently refocus yourself. You will also heighten your awareness of sensations within your body that accompany certain thoughts and emotions.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Your instructor will lead you through a series of meditation techniques, helping you to become aware of thoughts and feelings as they arise and letting go of these so that you can refocus on the immediate present. You will do guided meditation in class which you can then practise in your own time outside the class.
Practise these techniques for yourself at home or anywhere you feel comfortable between classes. Giving time to absorb and understand the essential principles of mindfulness will enable you to enjoy your practice and steadily enhance your well-being.
You will receive ongoing, regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive way. There is no qualification with this course.
