Microsoft Excel - Beginner

Course Description

On this course, you will learn the basics of using Excel spreadsheets to manipulate data. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience of Excel who want to develop their skills. You will become confident in using very simple but effective techniques and learn, through the examples used in class, the potential of using spreadsheets in your day-to-day life or work.

Course Requirements

You should be familiar with using a computer, knowing how to save and print documents. You should be familiar with using the internet and email.

Course Content

This course will cover the basics of using Excel: entering data, writing formulas, using functions such as the (Auto)Sum, Average, Count, Max(imum), Min(nimum), CountIF, CountBlank, SumIF, formatting spreadsheets, and creating charts.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will have demonstrations on a SmartBoard and you will follow set exercises as practise to help you manipulate the data and explore the features that Excel has to offer. In addition to the classes you will be expected to do some homework to practise your skills.

Assessment

Your work will be continually assessed in class. This is a non-accredited course but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Following successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the Microsoft Excel Intermediate course.
