Course Description

Everyone has a story to tell. Learn how to transform your experiences and memories into stories that will resonate with your readers. Explore the various ways to approach life writing in this 4-week course. Suitable for all levels of experience.

Course Requirements

You will need a good level of written English, at least GCSE level.

Course Content

This four-week course is for those wanting to write about their life experiences. You will learn several ways to approach life writing and the recording of memories, and experiences. You will be able to write and receive feedback in a supportive atmosphere and learn some essential principles of good writing technique. The course is also intended to inspire and promote your writing confidence. We will explore various examples of life writing. This will be followed by writing exercises. In the final part of the session everyone will be invited to read aloud from their work. You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor and peers, in a safe environment.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Practical written work; reading and discussion; and groupwork. In addition to the classes you can explore further reading and extend your writing exercises.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor, and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
