Creative Digital Photography - Level 2

Course Description

This Level 2 qualification runs over two terms and will help you develop a professional understanding of photographic processes and image editing through practical projects and theory based lessons. You will also develop an understanding of employment opportunities and legislation relevant to photographic practice such as copyright. The course builds on the practical and creative skills of our L1 Creative Digital Photography course and prepares you for further study or work in the industry.

Course Requirements

We recommend you complete the Level 1 Creative Digital Photography course before applying. Learners will need Level 1 or equivalent in Maths and English along with intermediate Computer/IT Skills. You will also need confidence in speaking and listening, participating in discussions, responding to the views of others appropriately, reading, being able to research online, understanding written instructions and following a brief. The potential candidate should also have passion for the visual world, specifically picture taking and image manipulation. You will also be able to work independently and as part of a team whilst working to deadlines for assessment. Experience in photography or related course work is highly encouraged. You will need to have access to a camera with manual settings to work independently outside of lesson time.

Course Content

Over the duration of the course, you will further develop your skills in digital photography techniques as well as digital editing and artwork. You will continue to explore a variety of photography briefs in order to specialise in fashion photography, product photography, experimental photography or any other style you wish to develop. You will further develop photo-editing skills in order to produce professional quality photographic outcomes. You will continue to experiment with composition, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field as well as studio lighting in order to produce personal responses to given briefs and expand your knowledge and creativity. As part of the course, you will explore other photographers' work in order to inspire your own outcomes. Throughout the course, you will build up your own portfolio, to help you work towards a career in the industry. If you successfully complete the course, you will receive a Level 2 certificate from NCFE.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. You will also be expected to complete course work and research in your own time.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways e.g. peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. You will also receive specific feedback relating to formal assignments that are both written and practical.

Next Steps and Progression

Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject in the creative arts. Alternatively, you may seek guidance from your tutor regarding employment or higher level courses. Advice and guidance for all further study is also available from the Curriculum Manager by request.

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course and is subject to an interview with a member of our support staff.
