The single-term L1 Certificate in Music Performance Skills focuses on the development of individual and group performance skills. It will also introduce you to digital composition and how the music performance industry works. This is an accredited course, meaning upon successful completion you will gain a L1 Certificate in Performance Skills. The course runs on-site all-day Thursday plus 2 hours online on a Tuesday. You will be expected to do some independent learning between weekly sessions.
Entry onto the course is via an initial assessment and interview with portfolio or samples of your work, if you have them. As there is a written element to the course, you will need to have evidence of a minimum of entry level 3 English, or higher. If you do not, then you may be asked to sit a short screening test during initial assessment / interview. The potential candidate must also be able to work independently and as part of a team and to give and receive criticism from others while working to deadlines.
The course will focus upon music performance. This will be supplemented by learning about digital composition and how it can support song writing. You can also perform your songs live. The final part of the course involves developing an understanding of the live music industry and building your confidence with the written and research aspects of learning.
Teaching and Learning Methods
You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. You will also be expected to complete course work and reserach in your own time.
You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways e.g. peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. You will also receive specific feedback relating to formal assignments that are both written and practical.
Next Steps and Progression
Upon successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to accredited courses at Level 2.
