Level 1 Creative Film & Video Production

Course Description

This Level 1 certified course provides a starting point for those wishing to begin their journey towards a creative career. It will introduce you to film and video production and provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to progress to further study related to film and digital industries, and ultimately to work in these areas. On successful completion of our Level 1 course you may be eligible to progress to our Level 2 Film and Video Production course starting in January.

Course Content

• Filmmaking equipment and
• Planning and producing a short documentary
• Editing a film in camera
• Filming an interview
• Recording sound
• Editing a video
You will be required to keep effective records, notes and development work and the tutor will get your academic skills up to speed, as well as supporting you in using information effectively and planning and managing work.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Through instructor-led demonstrations and exercises you will learn how to plan, produce and edit a short video using a variety of techniques and equipment.
Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, iLearn.

Independent Learning

In addition to classes you will be expected to complete some work independently. Access to your own computer and relevant software is beneficial, you will also be able to use our general college facilities and the library outside of session hours.

Assessment

You will be given assignment briefs and submission deadlines to work towards. Work will be formally assessed by your tutor on completion of each project and you will be given feedback to help you improve.
All coursework produced will need to be retained by the college for 6-8 weeks after completion of the course for external verification by OCNLR.

Qualification you will achieve

On successful completion of coursework you will achieve an OCNLR Level 1 Award in the Creative and Digital Industries (QCF).

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish.

The College also provides additional financial support through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund (DLSF); however there are eligibility criteria that applies. Please refer to the DLSF policy which can be found at the main reception.
