Introduction to Tapestry and Cloth Weaving Workshop (Mixed Level)

Course Description

This one day course is a broad introduction to weaving where you will explore two contrasting methods: tapestry weaving and tabletop loom weaving. You will explore the basic foundations of weaving by creating a series of samples using a variety of materials and yarns.

Course Content

This course will give you the basic skills and terminology to create your own woven tapestry sampler. You will explore shapes, colour, texture and finishing techniques, as well as experimenting with a variety of yarns.

There will also be an opportunity to try your hand at cloth weaving on an eight shaft traditional loom.

Teaching and Learning Methods

On this course you will work at your own pace and your progress will be reviewed regularly. At the end of the course, you will receive feedback on your achievements and the tutor can advise you on next steps.

Resources used within each lesson are available for students on the online learning platform, iLearn.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, gigs or websites for you to visit to enrich your study.


There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.
