Sage Payroll - Introduction

Course Description

This Course will give you an introduction to Computerised Payroll and help develop the skills and knowledge to be able to enter an employee's gross pay from given basic personal and contractual information and do a payroll run. The skills gained on this course will help those looking for employment as a wages clerk or payroll assistant.

Course Requirements

You should have numeracy skills at a minimum of Entry Level 3, a working knowledge of computing with a good keyboard speed, an interest in working with figures, and the desire to solve accounts problems.

Course Content

During this course you will develop a basic knowledge of Computerised Payroll. By the end of the course, you will be familiar with payroll terminology, be able to enter an employee's gross pay from given basic personal and contractual information and perform a payroll run. Topics covered include: company details; setting up employees' records and setting payment/deduction types; processing the payroll; entering gross salaries, printing payslips and updating the payroll; payroll reports; payroll summary reports and printing form P32, etc.; starters and leavers; adding new employees to the payroll and generating P45s for leavers.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching, learning and assessment methods used on the course will include computer-based training using accounts software, presentations, group work, discussions, individual timed tasks and directed self-study. As with all our programmes, this course includes individual reviews, giving you individual time with your tutor to reflect and set targets. Students need to commit to making time outside of class to practice, at home or in the college. Homework is set every week and is an essential part of your course.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and takes place throughout the programme by a variety of methods including practical online assessments, written tasks This is a non-accredited course but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Following successful completion of your course you can progress to any Level 1 Bookkeeping/ Accounting /Excel related courses or employment.
