Intermediate French pt1 (B1)

Course Description

This lively communicative course is designed to develop your speaking skills by promoting discussions on several topics, for example relationships, life events and accommodation issues. You will also consolidate your grammar, with an emphasis on narrating past events.

Course Content

By the end of the course, you will be able to discuss accommodation and relationships issues, to use connectives and adverbs to express yourself more articulately, and to use a range of tenses to tell someone about past events. You will also improve your pronunciation, with a focus on nasal sounds and intonation.

Teaching and Learning Methods

In this course you will be actively learning French through a variety of interactive classroom activities, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. You will work in pairs/small groups to practice speaking and listening, with worksheets and activities to develop your reading and writing. Learning will be enriched through the use of audio-visual aids, realia (authentic material), online interactive resources, and role play.
Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, Google Classroom.



The skills you are learning should be practiced outside college in order to develop and progress. Homework is set every week and is an essential part of your course.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and will take place throughout the course.
The tutor will give you feedback on your speaking in class, and mark your written work. During the course, you will set up an individual learning plan, where you will reflect on your progress and set your own targets.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish. The College also provides additional financial support through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund (DLSF); however there are eligibility criteria that applies. Please refer to the DLSF policy which can be found at the main reception.
