ICT Functional Skills Entry 1

Course Description

If you have very little or no experience of using computers, then this course will give you a good introduction to the basics. You will learn how to create posters and leaflets and how to email using Outlook.

Location: Online/Camden

Course Content

You will use Microsoft Word to create posters and leaflets, and Microsoft Outlook to email. You will also learn how to organise your folders and files in the Windows Operating System environment.

At the end of the course you will do a set assignment in order to gain the ICT Functional Skills Entry 1 certificate.

Teaching and Learning Methods

There will be demonstrations on a Smart Board and you will follow set exercises as practice. You will have past papers from Edexcel to help you revise for the assignment.

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes, you will be expected to do some homework to practise your skills.


There will be continual assessment during the course as well as a final assessment for the certificate.

Qualification you will achieve

On the successful completion of the assignment, you will achieve the Edexcel ICT Functional Skills Entry 1 certificate.

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish. The College also provides additional financial support through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund (DLSF); however there are eligibility criteria that applies. Please refer to the DLSF policy which can be found at the main reception.
