Who is this course for and what will I learn?
Previous musical performing experience is necessary. A desire to perform and play music together is essential, as well as a commitment to attend classes and practice the exercises you are set. It is desirable, but not essential to be able to read music before the start of the course. You will also be expected to complete an Individual Learning Plan to help support your progress. If an individual's confidence level is not appropriate for the ensemble, we reserve the right to direct you to another appropriate course. At the end of the course, you will be able to play simple ensemble guitar pieces together, guided by a conductor. You will learn to play new scales and technical exercises, including arpeggios. Please note that although you will be introduced to all the above over a single term (10 weeks), the course is developmental over the whole year.
How will I learn?
You will learn through practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, and individual practice. In order to make progress, regular practice sessions by yourself outside class are important.
Assessment and next steps
You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course, but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request. Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject.
