Our two-Saturday hands-on Beginners Final Cut Pro X Course familiarises you with; the user interface, how to perform basic editing functions using new features including the Automatic Import features, Media Management and Improved Timeline. This course will lead you through the basics of using this powerful software package, working on practical, hands on examples and exercises ensuring you benefit from practical experience and learn useful tips and tricks.
Final Cut Pro X is an Apple Mac software and is not available for PC. No previous knowledge/qualifications are required but familiarity with Apple Mac computers is advantageous. The college offers a one day course on using Apple Mac computers.

Teaching and Learning Methods
Through instructor led demonstrations and exercises you will learn how to edit a short promotional video or film using a variety of media, adding video effects and titles and finally exporting your finished video. All media resources will be provided, although you are also welcome to bring your own videos, stills, etc. Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, iLearn. There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects.
There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.
Next Steps and Progression
Once you have completed the course you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject in the Creative Arts department. For Art and Design courses, once you have developed a portfolio of work you could consider applying to the Foundation Diploma in Art and design as a Pathway in to Higher Education. Studio courses are for those learners with some subject knowledge or who have been studying the same subject at the college for 3 full years.
