Feldenkrais

Course Description

This is an introduction to the Feldenkrais method, which seeks to improve comfort and skill in movement, raising awareness of breathing and posture. Feldenkrais takes a somatic approach; the mind and body are one. Learners learn to use this awareness to release habitual patterns of tension, to create new movement possibilities and to make the existing ones more efficient, easier and elegant. Broadly beneficial and appropriate for people of all ages and abilities.

Location: Camden

Course Requirements

If you have a medical condition or any health concerns, or haven't exercised for a long time, speak to your GP before you start this course. Prior knowledge or experience is not required. Loose, comfortable clothing (stretchy) is best.

Course Content

You will learn to pay more attention to the way you move and hold yourself. You will carry out sequences of movements slowly and gently, exploring and developing your awareness of how these moves feel and in so doing, allow yourself to improve your overall movement organization and move with greater ease.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Your instructor will talk you through sets of gentle movements and whilst you are doing these, will direct your attention on how you are carrying out these movements and invite you to notice differences in sensations between movement variations. The emphasis is on doing movements slowly and within your own comfort range, which is essential for recognising existing habitual movement patterns and learning new ones.

Independent Learning

Practise these techniques for yourself at home or anywhere you feel comfortable between classes. Giving time to absorb and understand the essential principles of chair yoga will enable you to enjoy your practice and steadily gain health benefits.
