Fashion - Workshop

Course Description

This is for experienced learners to work on personal projects. You will have access to sewing machines and pattern cutting equipment, and a fashion and textiles tutor on hand to support and advise you on your work and projects including design, pattern cutting, garment construction and fittings.

Location: Camden

Course Requirements

These workshops are aimed at Fashion students who would like time in the studio to complete projects and develop new ideas and techniques. These are not taught classes, but the tutor will aim to support you to use a range of techniques to enable you to produce garments with a professional finish. You should have experience in either pattern cutting, construction or design, to be able to utilize the space and work independently on the equipment and on your project.

Course Content

This is a self-lead project-based course and is suitable for anyone interested in the subject. You need to have experience of Pattern Cutting or be on one of our courses to join the workshop. The workshop is designed to complement the courses and can enable students to have more time to work on their projects if they enroll on both the course and this workshop at the same time. It can help to provide a strong grounding in the core techniques of the subject and explore further design, creativity, and use of materials. Students can repeat the workshop to develop their work further. The tutor will be available to support you with: Design, pattern cutting, garment construction, fittings and alterations and using equipment.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will be able to develop your skills by engaging with suitable projects determined by your existing level of experience in discussion with the tutor. Teaching is on an individual, one-to-one basis, using demonstrations, discussion, examples, samples, handouts, and other technical support material where appropriate. You will be able to negotiate individual learning goals together with the tutor. During the first session, the tutor will check your experience to date and personal goals for the course, and if it is considered that it is not the right one, you will be advised on a more suitable course. You will be working at your own pace and be given verbal feedback on your progress.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor, and in written form at the end of the course. The college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Your tutor will make you aware of these and your participation is welcomed and encouraged.?
