Explore the challenging techniques of watercolour painting and start to realise its potential. Watercolour has an amazing range of qualities and has much potential to explore for the beginner, or even for the experienced artist. You will learn techniques such as wash, layering of colour, brush handling, creating still life and observation works, and develop your own imaginative artwork.

Course Requirements
Suitable for complete beginners or for students who have previous experience and would like to explore it further. Some previous drawing experience is preferred.
Course Content
This is a new fun and contemporary Watercolour course that explores a variety of techniques from the traditional to the less conventional. It covers basic skills and also exolore how to achieve a looser style incorporating additional media. By the end of the course you should have: develop skills and techniques in using watercolours in various ways and gained an understanding of your creative process and ways to be experimental.
Teaching and Learning Methods
There will be specific technical exercises and demonstrations, which will allow you to proceed with the task of the day, set by the teacher. In the first session, the teacher will assess your skills and your personal goals for the course. You will be working at your own level in your own time. There will be plenty of 1:1 feedback throughout the lessons, and you will be given verbal and written feedback on your progress. There will be a group review at the end of each lesson. At the end of the course, the tutor will assess your progress and advise you on your next steps. A selection of drawing / painting Resources is available for students on our online learning platform, Office 365. No work outside the sessions is required. However, the college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Your tutor will make you aware of these and your participation is welcomed and encouraged. While there is no formal homework; your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, or websites and books for you to use to enrich your studies.
Assessment
There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.
