Elementary French pt2 (A2)

Course Description

This lively communicative course builds on previous vocabulary and grammar. It will enable you to deal with more practical topics verbally, including shopping for clothes, going to a pharmacy and complaining about a problem. On completion of this course, you can progress onto Elementary French pt3 (A2).

Course Requirements

You will need to have completed the course Elementary French pt1 (A2) or to be assessed as having achieved an equivalent level by our specialist staff.

Course Content

Over the course of this term you will develop the skills and vocabulary to enable you to deal with daily life situations in a range of practical contexts such as shopping and transport, health issues or the world of work. By the end of the course you will be able to choose and buy clothes in a shop, to describe health issues to a pharmacist or a doctor, to complain about an issue and express your feelings about something that happened. There will also be a focus on giving advice using a range of more complex verbs forms, with the introduction of modal verbs and the subjunctive mood.You will expand your vocabulary to include colloquial language and improve your ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. There is an emphasis on good pronunciation throughout this course to improve your speaking confidence.

Teaching and Learning Methods

In this course you will be actively learning French through a variety of interactive classroom activities, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. You will work in pairs/small groups to practice speaking and listening, with worksheets and activities to develop your reading and writing. Learning will be enriched through the use of audio-visual aids, realia (authentic material), online interactive resources, and role play. Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, Google Classroom. The skills you are learning should be practices outside college in order to develop and progress. Homework is set every week and is an essential part of your course.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and will take place throughout the course. The tutor will give you feedback on your speaking in class, and mark your written work. During the course, you will set up an individual learning plan, where you will reflect on your progress and set your own targets. There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Following successful completion of this course, you can progress onto Elementary French pt3 (A2) in the new term.
