Drawing and Painting for Pattern

Course Description

This course will allow you to explore painting and drawing to achieve pattern. It is an opportunity to be experimental with learnt techniques to make them your own. You will learn different printing and mark making techniques, such as block printing and stencilling, using mixed media, and will learn about colour theory and its application in creating patterns. You will also explore how to combine and develop ideas to create your own unique patterns

Course Requirements

This is suitable for all levels including beginners. An open mind and an interest in learning more about how you can develop your art practice though pattern.

Course Content

During this course you will spend time in the studio experimenting with techniques and materials and evaluating the results Use visual research in your sketchbook to develop personal project work in drawing and/or and painting, Extend your range of techniques and strategies in drawing and painting, Evaluate you own and others work and explore application of pattern to a personal project or end product. You will be drawing from still life and focusing on line, shape and composition as the starting point for creating a pattern. The tutor will introduce the subject using demonstrations and presentations and then work with students 1-1 to make sure they understand and learn at their own pace. As the course progresses the tutor will discuss with students individually how they would like to develop and personalise their work during the course and will tailor advice to suit

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching and learning methods are practical work and discussion with reference to the Smartboard for displaying work of established artists. Resources used within each lesson are available for learners online No work outside the sessions is required. However, the college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Your tutor will make you aware of these and your participation is welcomed and encouraged. While there is no formal homework; your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, or websites and books for you to use to enrich your study

Independent Learning

No work outside the sessions is required. However, the college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs.
