Digital Photography - Beginner/Mixed Level

Course Description

On this exciting course, you will learn all about shutter speed, aperture and lighting to achieve correct exposures in different situations to produce fantastic photos. This course is perfect for learning new skills or refreshing existing knowledge. You will learn how to stop using the auto button on your camera and to improve your images through a better understanding of basic compositional and perspective techniques. You should have your own digital DSLR camera to enrol on the course.

Course Requirements

You will need basic IT skills. The course will be taught on Macs and part of the teaching will be to help you better understand and navigate MACOSX. You will also need use of a digital camera with access to manual settings, to complete the weekly projects. You will also need to complete an individual learning plan.

Course Content

You will learn to - understand the functions of a digital SLR camera and associated accessories - use camera techniques including aperture, white balance, ISO, focus, shutter speed and flash - explore composition and aesthetic skills to produce visually interesting photographs.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. There is no homework associated with the sessions but please do discuss extension activities with your tutor.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer.
