Creative Production: Film & Video (Mixed Level)

Course Description

This 10 week course will introduce you to film/video production, from idea to final product. Learn how to create original video work through pre-production, production and post-production. The course will cover idea generation, production planning, shooting and editing for a short video project.

Location: Online/Camden

Course Content

-Understanding the workflow, requirements and key techniques of making a short film at an introductory level with readily available equipment and software.
-Understanding the basics of camera angles, shots, sequence structure narrative convention and aesthetic in short film making.
-Using video editing software to produce a short project.
-Becoming familiar with industry terminology.

Teaching and Learning Methods

-Illustrated lectures, delivered orally by the lecturer.
-Viewing clips referencing a variety of filmmaking techniques, styles and aesthetics.
-Students will work on a short film exercise that is designed to explore aspects of visual expression – from pitching to writing a short script, planning a small production, filming and editing.
Individual projects will be workshopped in class.

Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, iLearn.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, gigs or websites for you to visit to enrich your study.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer.
