Who is this course for and what will I learn?
Our choir is aimed at people with a little singing or choir experience, though no audition is required. You do not need to be able to read music and songs will mainly be taught by ear. The course will focus upon group singing and performance skills. You will work on key musical performing skills such as pitching notes accurately, singing different rhythms in time and communicating the meaning of a song through its lyrics. In addition to learning songs, you will advance your singing technique through vocal warm-ups, and breathing and tone production exercises. Please note that although you will be introduced to all the above over a single term (11 weeks), the course is developmental over the whole year and each term follows on from the previous one.
How will I learn?
You will learn through practical activities, group music-making, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials and individual practice. There is no homework, but spending some time practising the songs outside of class is recommended to help you get the most out of the sessions.
Assessment and next steps
You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways including verbal and written feedback from your teacher. Performing in end of term concerts is a great way for you to notice how much you have learnt in each term. Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject.
