Collage has been an important method of making images for many modern artists. Some artists find using the readymade can free you up to express yourself more effectively, while others enjoy the meticulous nature of mosaicing an image out of readymade coloured papers. This course offers the opportunity to further explore the potential of collage through experimentation and exploratory activities.
No previous experience required but an interest in art and a willingness to experiment is most welcome!
We will look at a number of artists who use collage in their work and then undertake some short activities based on their practice. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to develop one of these pieces as a larger-scale outcome. By the end of the course you will be able to; choose and create collage material for use in an image; discuss and evaluate the work of a number of artists who use collage; plan, design and create your own collage outcome.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The tutor will introduce the subject using demonstrations and presentations and then work with learners 1-1 to make sure they understand and learn at their own pace. As the course progresses the tutor will discuss with students individually how they would like to develop and personalise their work during the course and will tailor advice to suit. As this is a one-day course no work outside the sessions is required. However, the college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Your tutor will make you aware of these and your participation is welcomed and encouraged. Your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually for ongoing independent projects and recommend exhibitions, websites and books for you to use to enrich and extend your study.
There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request
