Choir (Mixed Level)

Course Description

We run a fun, friendly modern choir where you will sing, laugh, socialise and perform a range of uplifting songs. No experience or audition is required. The choir is for all ability levels and will help you to learn to sing in an ensemble. You can choose contemporary or traditional material and perform a role you are comfortable with. This could be singing the main tune or harmonising. The sessions will lead to public concerts that will help develop confidence and performance skills.

Location: Camden

Course Requirements

Beginners are welcome. However, some experience of singing will help with your learning. You will also be expected to complete an Individual Learning Plan to help support your progress. Ideal preparation for the course is any of the singing classes that run at WMC.

Course Content

The course will focus upon group singing and performance skills. You will be supported in developing skills such as rhythmic, harmonic, and melodic interpretation. You will also be introduced to appropriate singing techniques e.g. warm-ups, breathing and projection. This will be achieved by performing a series of popular songs chosen by class members and the tutor. However, the tutor will at all times reserve the right to have the final say on song choice. Also, if an individuals confidence level is not appropriate for the ensemble, we reserve the right to direct you to another appropriate course. Please note - although you will be introduced to all the above over a single term (10-weeks), the course is developmental over the whole year. If you sign up for the full three terms (courses A, B and C) at the start of the academic year e.g. August / September you will be entitled to the early bird discount.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. There is no homework associated with the sessions but please do discuss extension activities with your tutor.

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you will be expected to work independently to develop your practical vocal skills. The focus should be on singing practice but may also include researching material to perform.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request.
