Certificate in Digital Skills Level 1

Course Description

This course will give you practical ICT skills in the effective use of digital technologies and the internet. Right from the beginning of the course, you will gain hands-on experience in the use of office applications like web publishing, desktop publishing, presentations, word processing and spreadsheets.

Course Content

Learners will complete five Level 1 units. By the end of the course, learners will:
? Understand how to keep themselves and others safe when using digital technologies
? Learn how to carry out internet research
? Create and publish their own webpage
? Work on five projects and collaborate with others
? Present and showcase their work using presentation, word processing, desktop publishing and other applications

Teaching and Learning Methods

Learners will collaborate with each other through online learning platforms and group activities. Learners will also present their portfolio of evidence and showcase their knowledge through presentations and practical computer-based tasks.

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes, learners will be expected to devote about two hours each week to practising the digital skills that are learnt in class. These will strengthen their understanding and improve their skills.

Assessment

Learners will create a portfolio of evidence and showcase their knowledge through practical computer-based tasks and presentations.

Qualification you will achieve

On completion of this course you will achieve the Level 1 Certificate in Digital Skills.


The awarding body is OCN London.

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish. The College also provides additional financial support through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund (DLSF); however there are eligibility criteria that applies. Please refer to the DLSF policy which can be found at the main reception.
