A course to explore photographic print techniques for ceramics using silkscreens and photographic gum. All materials provided but you can bring your own images which should be about A5 size.


A course to explore photographic print techniques for ceramics using silkscreens, photographic gum and enamel transfers. All materials are provided but you can bring your own images which should be about A5 size.
The course will cover:
Preparing test-tiles and slabs to explore the techniques.
Making silk-screen stencils from newsprint using underglazes and oxides.
Transferring silk screen designs onto clay and Bisque–fired tiles to create your unique composition.
Transferring your own images onto acetate paper to make photographic negatives for gum print.
Preparing gum print medium and add under-glazes and oxides to be painted onto Bisque-fired tiles.
Exposing the tiles under UV light to print the image from the negatives you have created.
Glazing your work using a brush-on clear glaze.
Making ceramics enamel transfers, using specialist acetate papers and an inkjet photo-printer, to be applied on top of the glazed tiles.
Combining the different printing techniques to layer images.
