Ceramic Jewellery

Course Description

This course is for anyone interested in making their own jewellery or jewellery to sell. Have fun with shapes, textures and glazes to create stunning ceramic jewellery that can be made into earrings, necklaces, rings or brooches. You will learn to manipulate clay by moulding, carving, impressing and making into beads. On the course you will also make your own fixing and jump rings (findings).

Course Content

During the session you will learn hand-building techniques and apply them to create your own earrings, beads, necklace, broaches and more!
• You will be working with terracotta, and porcelain clay
to add textures, shape and form by modelling impressing and carving into clay
• Learn to add colour to your piece with our range of underglaze colours
• Learn how to make your own findings
• Learn how to make these into jewellery/home decor/key chains and much more.

You will have an individual learning plan to which you can add personal aims. You will work at your own pace and your progress will be reviewed regularly. At the end of the course, you will receive feedback on your achievements and the tutor can advise you on next steps.

Independent Learning

There is no formal homework, however, your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects and research. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, videos or websites for you to visit to enrich your study.


There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but a certificate of completion is available on request.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish.

An allocation of clay is included in the fee. Additional clay is available to purchase. You can bring your own tools if you have them. Your tutor can advise you which tools to buy and we can sell you a set at cost price if preferred.

Please bring your own apron or dress appropriately.

Please bring a notebook and pen with you.

The College provides financial support for some course fees, which is based on an eligibility criteria. For more information, please contact a member of the Learner Services team at the main reception.
