Beginners Spanish pt2 (A1)

Course Description

This course continues to introduce the Spanish language and culture. You will further develop your vocabulary to hold a variety of simple conversations. The emphasis is on building up your confidence to speak Spanish and to develop listening, reading and writing skills. By the end of this course, you will be able to order at restaurants, describe other people, express likes and dislikes and ask for directions. On completion of this course, you can progress onto Beginners Spanish pt3 (A1).

Course Content

This course will build on your basic grammar and vocabulary enabling you to improve your language and knowledge of topics such as food, accommodation, daily routines, tourism and describing people?s characters and appearance. You will improve your knowledge of basic written Spanish and develop a greater awareness of Spanish sounds. By the end of the course you will be able to describe your family and friends, describe your house, ask and answer questions about how often you do things, order at a restaurant, tell the time and describe your daily routine.

Teaching and Learning Methods

In this course you will be actively learning Spanish through a variety of interactive classroom activities, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. You will work in pairs/small groups to practice speaking and listening, with worksheets and activities to develop your reading and writing. Learning will be enriched through the use of audio-visual aids, realia (authentic material), online interactive resources, and role play.
Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, Google Classroom.

Independent Learning

The skills you are learning should be practices outside college in order to develop and progress. Homework is set every week and is an essential part of your course.


Assessment is continuous and will take place throughout the course.
The tutor will give you feedback on your speaking in class, and mark your written work. During the course, you will set up an individual learning plan, where you will reflect on your progress and set your own targets.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer.
