Beginners Spanish pt1 (A1)

Course Description

This is a lively introduction to the Spanish language and culture, with a gentle introduction to reading and writing in Spanish at a basic level. You will learn simple grammar and vocabulary so you can introduce and speak about yourself, ask and give directions when on holidays, and learn how to buy and request information while shopping. The course is suitable for complete beginners with no knowledge of the language. On completion of this course, you can progress onto Beginners Spanish pt2 (A1)

Course Content

This course will provide you with an introduction to reading and writing Spanish at a basic level, plus some basic grammar and vocabulary so you can introduce and speak about yourself. You will learn how to pronounce Spanish sounds. By the end of the course you will be able to introduce yourself, count and use numbers, talk about your family, talk about your job, talk about your hobbies, talk about the weather, describe your town and other places.

Teaching and Learning Methods

In this course you will be actively learning Spanish through a variety of interactive classroom activities, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. You will work in pairs/small groups to practice speaking and listening, with worksheets and activities to develop your reading and writing. Learning will be enriched through the use of audio-visual aids, realia (authentic material), online interactive resources, and role play.
Resources used within each lesson are available for learners on our online learning platform, Google Classroom.

Independent Learning

The skills you are learning should be practices outside college in order to develop and progress. Homework is set every week and is an essential part of your course.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and will take place throughout the course.
The tutor will give you feedback on your speaking in class, and mark your written work. During the course, you will set up an individual learning plan, where you will reflect on your progress and set your own targets.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
