Awesome Sketchbooks: Sketching techniques at the Wallace Museum

Course Description

Build up confidence with your sketching techniques and learn about famous artworks including Canaletto, Rubens, Titian and Rembrandt.
Each week we will sketch at the Wallace Collection and look at hidden meanings, style and techniques of artists and improve drawing skills. We will work from still life, landscape, portraits & sculptures. With artist and lecturer Alison Kusner.
This is an off-site course hosted at the Wallace Collection and you will need to bring your own sketchbook and dry drawing materials to the sessions.

Course Requirements

This course is suitable for all levels, including beginners. An open mind and interest in learning more about drawing and painting is all you will need. This is an offsite class hosted at the Wallace Collection.

Course Content

Course Content

This course will be based at the Wallace Collection in Manchester Square, London W1U 3BN
Our WM College tutor, Alison, will help you to experiment with a range of drawing techniques to build confidence and produce exciting artist studies and imaginative work.
You will be introduced to drawing skills, including line, tone, ways of creating depth and texture with room for your own experiments. Drawing in colour and developing ideas in a personal visual diary.
You will explore a range of artist’s paintings and sculptures and learn about the stories that inspired them and by the end of this course you will be able to: Explore different approaches to drawing and mixed media and use a sketchbook for visual research.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching and learning methods are practical work and discussion. Resources used within each lesson are available for learners online. No work outside the sessions is required. However, the college has an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and competitions throughout the year. Your tutor will make you aware of these and your participation is welcomed and encouraged. While there is no formal homework; your tutor may discuss ideas with you individually to help extend your study and for ongoing independent projects. Your tutor will also recommend exhibitions, or websites and books for you to use to enrich your study.

Assessment

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor and in written form at the end of the course. There is no formal qualification attached to this course, but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.

Next Steps and Progression

Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject. Advice and Guidance for all further study is available from the Curriculum Manager by request.

This course is not eligible for Additional Learning Support (ALS), however teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs.??Reasonable adjustments including assistive equipment and also access support can be made available through our Disability Officer.?
