Award in Education and Training Level 3

Course Description

This course provides a structured introduction to teaching as a step towards licensed (teacher) practitioner status. The course is aimed at people who come from a variety of vocational backgrounds who want a practical hands-on introduction to teaching; you may already be working in a teaching or support role. You will demonstrate your teaching skills through two assessed micro teaching exercises. Please note that the concessionary rate does not apply to this course, however, you may be able to qualify for the Learner Financial Support Fund.

Course Content

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in Education and Training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions, and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching methods are varied and include talk, discussion, group work, case studies, presentations and practical tasks. All resources used within each lesson are available via Google Classroom

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you will be expected to complete an average of at least 3 hours of home study per week.


Your work will be marked by your tutor who will give you constructive feedback on how to improve. Your micro teaching will be observed by your tutor and your peers.
You are expected to complete a portfolio of written evidence to show your knowledge and understanding. You will deliver two practical teaching sessions. You must complete all written and practical tasks in order to pass. By the end of the course you may be able to apply for paid teaching work in your own specialism.

Completion of this course will give you the Level 3 Award in Education and Training awarded by Ascentis

Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support (ALS) is available for this course. ALS is subject to an assessment with a trained member of staff and support may include one or more of the following: support in the classroom, out of class workshops such as literacy, ICT and maths and specialist support for dyslexia. Provision of assistive equipment is also available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments with our Disability Officer. Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
